These pulp painted cards are handmade by first making a sheet of cream colored hemp and cotton paper and then using squirt bottles full of finely beaten and colorful cotton pulp to make the plaid design which is integrated into the paper and not printed on top. The envelopes are handmade from recycled cotton and hosta leaf fiber. The materials are cut to pieces and beaten to a pulp in a Hollander beater. The pulp is added to a vat of water where the fibers are scooped up with a flat sieve called a mold and deckle. The wet pages are stacked, pressed, and left to dry before folding, gluing and packaging. Each sheet is unique and crafted from scratch to give your written message qualities which are entirely absent in a machine made card.
